Bertil Liander, 87, of Easthampton, alumnus and professor emeritus of marketing, died March 10.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, he was a graduate of Schartau College and earned his MBA at the Stockholm School of Economics in 1954. He moved to Paris in 1958 for a position with the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC). In 1961, he moved to Rome to work with RCA International.
A move to the United States followed in 1963, for the position of director in international studies at the Marketing Science Institute in Philadelphia.
He came to UMass Amherst in 1968 as a lecturer in international marketing and management. He earned his Ph.D. in 1972 through the School of Business Administration, where he ran the Master of Business Administration program. He retired from the faculty in 1992.
He leaves his wife Kerstin, son and daughter Marten and Catharina and their spouses, four grandchildren and three sisters.
