Allan R. “Big Al” McKinnon, 85, of Amherst, a retired staff member in Athletics and Campus Recreation and alumnus, died April 22.
Born in Holyoke, he graduated from the university in 1952 and was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer, first serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He taught guided missile guidance components at Fort Monmouth, N.J.
He returned to Holyoke to own and manage J. & W. Jolly, Inc., a fabrication and machine tool business.
In 1993, he began working for the Athletic Department as transportation coordinator, retiring in 2004.
He leaves his wife, Peggy (Torma) McKinnon, children Linda McGrath, Jeffrey McKinnon, Laurie McKinnon, seven grandchildren. Stepfamily Mark and Kim Nagy, Tracy (Nagy) Taylor and eight step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a future date.
