CE-ENGIN 629 “Clay Minerals and Micro/Nano Characterization” 3 credits; Instructor: Guoping Zhang; Combination of basic clay mineralogy and micro/nano characterization for clays and other fine-grained geomaterials, including clay crystal structure, chemical, physical, and mechanical properties, and a suite of characterization techniques (nanoindentation, electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction). Prerequisites: CE-ENGIN 320 Soil Mechanics; CE-ENGIN 423 Engineering Geology; CE-ENGIN 241 Strength of Materials I
