National Guard, AFD Plan Helicopter Emergency Drill on Feb. 8

The Amherst Fire Department will be conducting a joint drill with the Massachusetts Army National Guard on Saturday, Feb. 8. The live exercise, which will simulate a mass-casualty event, will involve the use of National Guard helicopters to evacuate “patients” from the scene. The drill will take place on the west side of campus near Route 116 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During this time there will periodically be low-flying helicopters that will also be landing and taking off a number of times in the area. The drill will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
