The Department of Music and Dance will present its 39th annual Multiband Pops program on Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. The showcase event is produced and coordinated by professor Jeffrey W. Holmes.
Fifteen different music and dance ensembles appear in rapid succession, leaving virtually no time between the concluding note of one ensemble’s performance and the first note of the following group’s musical selection. Holmes, who choreographs the smooth flow of performances, keeps the audience guessing from where in the hall the next ensemble will play; locations include the stage; pit; sides and back of the hall and upper balconies.
The highlight for some listeners is the rousing performance by the Minuteman Marching Band, which is nearly the entire second half of the show. Music will also be performed by these Wind, Brass, String, Choral, Percussion and Dance ensembles, the: Chamber Choir, Chapel Jazz, Horn Choir, Jazz Ensemble I, Mass Marimbas, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Symphony Band, Trombone Choir, UMass Dancers, Marimba Ensembles, University Orchestra, Vocal Jazz and Wind Ensemble.
Tickets to the performance are $15 for students, senior citizens and children under 18 years of age; and $20 for all others. To buy tickets call 545-2511 or go to fac.umass.edu/MusicandDance.
