Minutemen Take National Television Stage Saturday to Host First SEC Foe Vanderbilt

Isenberg School of Management and School of Public Health and Health Sciences alumni to be recognized as UMass takes on Commodores at noon on ESPNews

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The UMass Minutemen football team will host its first Southeastern Conference opponent in front of a national television audience this Saturday, Sept. 21, as it takes on the Vanderbilt University Commodores at Gillette Stadium at noon EDT, in a game that will be broadcast live on ESPNews.

It will be Youth Football Day at Gillette Stadium, as youth football teams and leagues from around the Commonwealth will join UMass fans and alumni to cheer on the Minutemen.

Activities, food, music and alumni celebrations will start early when the UMass Amherst Alumni Association Tailgate Tent and MinuteFan Park open at 9 a.m.  Fans and alumni can visit the Tailgate Tent to meet Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy and learn about the new programs and advanced degrees offered by the Isenberg School of Management and the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.

The Minutemen Marching Band, cheerleaders and dance team will provide entertainment, and fans can play various tailgating games. Children can have their faces painted and fans can have “eye-black” applied.

At 9:30 a.m., the Minutemen team buses arrive at the Tailgate Tent so that fans can take part in the traditional Minutemen Team March, as head coach Charley Molnar and the players greet fans and alumni while they enter Gillette Stadium to prepare for action.

The Tailgate Tent will serve brunch at 10 a.m., and for $10 fans can enjoy a pregame meal that includes bagels with cream cheese, hot breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon buns, Caesar salad, pulled pork sliders, beef short ribs, macaroni & cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, assorted cookies and soft drinks.

Parking at Gillette Stadium is free for all fans, and alumni of the Isenberg School of Business and the School of Public Health and Health Sciences are eligible to receive discounted tickets to this week’s game.
