William S. McClure, executive director of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE), has been elected by University Professional & Continuing Education Association to serve as its secretary-treasurer for 2012-14.
The election comes at the conclusion of a 15-month process of planning, transition and revitalization for UPCEA culminating in a new strategic plan, bylaws and membership structure that were unveiled at the association's annual conference in late March.
"I am honored to accept this appointment and look forward to working with the UPCEA leadership team to advance our profession," McClure said.
At CPE, McClure is responsible for a large and wide variety of academic programs, credit and non-credit, graduate and undergraduate, face-to-face, and online, offered throughout the year that are presented through CPE. He has taught business courses at four colleges/universities and consulted with several others regarding continuing education topics. He was a career senior officer in the U.S. Air Force. McClure has two master's degrees in education administration and business administration. He is the recipient of several regional and national awards from continuing education associations and is a frequent presenter at continuing higher education conferences. McClure has served as the president of the Continuing Education Association of New York and the North American Association of Summer Sessions, and has held several regional and national leadership positions with UPCEA.
UPCEA is the leading association for universities engaged in professional, continuing and online education. UPCEA serves more than 350 institutions, including most of the leading public and private universities in North America. The association provides its members with professional development programs, research and information and publications. UPCEA also recognizes best practices in the field and promotes awareness of the needs of adult and non-traditional learners.
