Leadership change announced in Student Affairs and Campus Life

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life Jean Kim today announced that she will be leaving her position at the end of June to pursue other professional opportunities.

Enku Gelaye, currently dean of students and associate vice chancellor, will become interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life effective July 1.

Subbaswamy said, “I want to thank Vice Chancellor Kim for her service to the university and for her advocacy to establish a caring and supportive environment that fosters student success.”

A formal search process to select a permanent vice chancellor will be undertaken, Subbaswamy said.

Gelaye joined UMass Amherst in April 2011, coming from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she served as executive officer for the vice chancellor for student affairs. Prior to joining UCLA in 2004, she served as interim director of student judicial affairs and community standards at the University of Southern California. Gelaye has a J.D. from the University of Georgia and a B.S. from the University of Tennessee.

“Dean Gelaye has demonstrated impressive leadership abilities in her two years at UMass Amherst,” Subbaswamy said, “and her work with students, faculty, staff, parents and the surrounding community has earned her respect and praise. I am confident she will continue to serve the university with distinction as she takes on her new responsibilities.”
