Launch Party for Emily Lordi’s First Book

Amherst Books is celebrating the publication of “Black Resonance: Iconic Women Singers & African American Literature,”by Emily Lordi, assistant professor of English, on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. at 8 Main St.

Lordi’s first book reveals aesthetic connections between the literary works of Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, Gayl Jones, Nikki Giovanni, Linda Susan Jackson and the vocal art of several iconic women singers: Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Etta James.
