Jose Gonzales and Conjunto de Bomba will perform Puerto Rican music and dance on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Augusta Savage Gallery.
Gonzales, guitarist, composer and virtuoso Cuatro player, is one of the world’s foremost Puerto Rican and Latin musicians. He has performed along the eastern seaboard and Caribbean and has recorded and performed with some of Latin music’s major artists. A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, Gonzales has seven self-produced, best-selling albums and music that has been featured on television and in film productions by NBC, CNN and PBS.
Conjunto de Bomba, led by Nick Shaw, is an ensemble of musicians, dancers and drummers from Amherst Regional High School. The group will present “Bomba,” an Afro-Puerto Rican music and dance form of spontaneous music. Over the past five years, the ensemble has brought this dance to Western Massachusetts through seventy performances at public schools, colleges and cultural centers.
The event is free and open to the public.
