The Fine Arts Center is accepting applications to the 33rd annual Jazz in July Summer Music Programs, to be held July 7-18.
Jazz in July is a summer intensive workshop examining the technique, history and culture of jazz. Every summer, the all-stars of jazz come together to school the next generation of up-and-coming jazz musicians. Along with campus faculty members, Jeff Holmes, Felipe Salles, Tom Giampietro, Catherine Jensen-Hole, Bob Ferrier and Genevieve Rose are jazz greats like Sheila Jordan, Avery Sharpe, Steve Davis, Bruce Diehl, Steve Johns, Chip Jackson, Greg Caputo, Luis Perdomo and Arturo O’Farrill.
Students work with these cutting-edge jazz artists to hone their musical and performance skills through one-on-one sessions, lectures, group clinics, jazz theory and improvisation training, ensemble coaching, style explorations, jam sessions and performances in front of a live audience.
Enrollment is filling up but applications for piano, bass, drums, guitar, trumpet, trombone, saxophone and voice are still being accepted. The deadline to apply is June 9.
