Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Jeffrey Holmes, will perform a 30-minute concert at the 7th Annual High School Jazz Festival as part of the awards program on Saturday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall.
The festival will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be followed by performances by a selected high school ensemble at 7:20 p.m. and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.
The festival will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. High school big bands, combos and vocal jazz ensembles from Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut are invited to attend the festival. Students will have the opportunity to perform for and attend workshops with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra and Department of Music and Dance faculty Dave Sporny, Catherine Jensen-Hole, Adam Kolker and Holmes.
Displays of music and instruments by American Music and Gerry’s Music will be available throughout the day. The festival will be the largest one ever held, with at least 14 ensembles performing.
The public is welcome to attend the sessions, free of charge, which will be held in Bezanson Recital Hall, Room 44 and other rooms in the Music wing of the Fine Arts Center.
After the festival, a selected high school ensemble will play at 7:20 p.m. as a prelude to a concert by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. The winning high school ensemble can be heard free of charge. Tickets to the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Arturo O’Farrill, are available at the Fine Arts Center Box Office (545-2511).
