As part of a comprehensive effort by University Relations to improve online communications, a revamped campus website, known as the “gateway” or umass.edu, was launched this week in tandem with a redesigned News and Media Relations website.
Both sites feature enhanced multimedia capabilities and are intended to provide quicker and easier access to information in a more open design. The websites use Drupal, the campus’s standard content-management system.
The News and Media Relations website is now a one-stop destination for external news, such as press releases, news videos, a campus experts directory, notable media coverage, calendar of events, a feed from UMass Athletics and a new internal news site, Inside UMass, which is the successor to In the Loop, a site launched about nine years ago.
Combining the external and internal news websites places all news, for audiences on and off campus, in one easy-to-access location. Inside UMass retains the basic look and feel of its predecessor but also will feature multimedia elements such as videos and photo slideshows. The People and Weekly Bulletin sections have been retained and the previous Talking Points section is now called Headliners. The weekly e-mail newsletter will continue to be distributed on Thursdays.
The sites also link to social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, and are designed to display on a variety of mobile devices.
