Frank Hugus, associate provost for International Programs, was one of five invited guests from abroad at the 60th anniversary celebration of the founding of Shaanxi Normal University held earlier this month in Xi’an, China.
As part of the celebration, Hugus delivered a paper at the Overseas University Presidents Symposium on Education, “First Steps along a Thousand-Mile Educational Journey into the 21st Century.”
While in China, Hugus also met with former UMass Amherst students, faculty, and alumni in Beijing and discussed collaborative projects with faculty and administrators of Beijing Foreign Studies University and Shaanxi Normal University.
”The Chinese ministry of education is committed to preparing students for living and working in a global context and is encouraging its universities to partner with foreign institutions,” Hugus said. “This commitment holds potential benefits for the University of Massachusetts Amherst as well as for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”
