The American Physical Society has awarded the Herman Feshbach Prize in Theoretical Nuclear Physics to Barry R. Holstein, professor emeritus of physics.

The prize recognizes Holstein “for seminal theoretical studies of fundamental symmetries in nuclei, including radioactive nuclear decays, parity-violating nucleon-nucleon interactions, and chiral dynamics of mesons and baryons.”

Holstein, whose research focused on high energy theory and cosmology, joined the faculty in 1971 and retired in 2008.
