Girls Inc. of Holyoke, UMass Amherst College of Natural Sciences Launch Eureka! Program to Encourage Girls in STEM Fields

Suzanne Parker, executive director of Girls Inc. of Holyoke, and Steve Goodwin, dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will announce the launch of Eureka!, a nationally recognized program designed to engage girls 12-18 to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and address the gender gap in those key disciplines.
 
The five-year effort will begin this summer where 30-35 eighth-grade girls from the greater Holyoke area will spend four weeks at UMass Amherst working on projects with 60 STEM faculty members and learning about the college experience. The program will run from July 8 to Aug. 2.
