Michael Gilbert, former director of Housing Services, has been named assistant vice president for campus student services at Pennsylvania State University. He begins his new post Aug. 1.
The new position within the division of student affairs was created to provide leadership in efforts to enhance the student experience at all Penn State locations. According to Penn State officials, Gilbert will spearhead efforts to cultivate innovative delivery of services by leveraging student services and programs available at University Park. He also will provide leadership and supervision for support units for the division of student affairs.
Gilbert, who completed his doctorate in Higher Education Policy, Research and Administration last year through the School of Education, came to campus in 1994 as associate director of Residence Life. In July 1995, he was named interim director of Housing Services following the departure of Chika Nnamani. Gilbert was appointed to the permanent post in 1996. He headed Housing Services until earlier this year when he was named a special assistant to Michael Gargano, vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life.
He previously served in student affairs positions at Northwestern University, North Carolina State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Illinois State University and Michigan State University.
