The Augusta Savage Gallery is hosting an art exhibition, "After Dibutade: Four Women from the Anchor House of Artists," from Oct. 27 to Nov. 23.
The title refers to the legendary Corinthian woamn credited by Neclassical art theorists and poets with inventing picture making. Dibutade traced her lover''s shadow on the wall so the drawing could keep her company in her lover''s absence.
Works by four women from Anchor House of Artists, the collective atlier and gallery in Northampton that represents artists living with mental illness, are featured in the show.
The artists are painter Genevieve Burnett, stone sculptor Wendy Chicoine, and painters Virginia Harlow Deborah Sklar.
An opening reception will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, 5-7 p.m. at the gallery, which is located in New Africa House.
