Four undergraduates were honored with the Rising Research Award at an April 23 reception with Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy.
The award was launched last year to recognize outstanding undergraduate researchers who have demonstrated leadership and impact in their chosen area of study.
This year’s honorees are:
- Marie Calapa, a senior astronomy student whose research has centered on the astrophysics of galaxies.
- Amy Armstrong, a senior double-major in history and Afro-American studies, who was selected for her research on the non-profit local Safe Passage shelter.
- John Sisay-Beckford, a junior in microbiology whose research focuses on undergraduate activity patterns and genetic links.
- Walter Everett Brown, a sophomore computer systems engineering and computer science student, whose research examines formal verification for arithmetic circuits.
