Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes Research Study

Study logo

The Energy Metabolism Laboratory is looking for individuals with type 2 diabetes to participate in a study of the immediate and prolonged effects of physical activity on blood sugar concentrations.

Volunteers must be age 35-75, have type 2 diabetes and not take insulin.

Participants will be asked to visit the Energy Metabolism Laboratory four times over a two-week period. Each visit lasts between 30 minutes to 1 hour. During the visits to the lab, researchers will measure body composition, bone density and resting metabolic rate.

Participants will be asked to wear a continuous glucose monitor to measure blood sugar continuously for one week, along with two physical activity monitors. On two days of the week, participants will be asked to perform some additional physical activity in their own free-living environment. This activity will either be in the form of a continuous session of walking or short (less than five minutes) periods of light activity after each meal.

At the end of the study, participants will be given copies of the health information collected. Participants will also receive $25 compensation and a one-month membership to the Body Shop Fitness Center.
