AMHERST, Mass. - The Du Bois Library will add hours to its schedule beginning Sunday, December 5. On December 5, the Library will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. The hours for December 6 through December 19 will be 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. On December 20, the Library will revert to its previously published schedule.
The library shuttle schedule will coincide with these extended hours. A recorded message of hours for all UMass Amherst Libraries is available at 545-0414.
The added hours are intended to provide students with additional study space during the reading period and finals. No staffed services will be provided during the added hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and midnight to 2:00 a.m.
The extension of the Library''s hours is the result of a collaboration of Library staff, student and faculty members of the Faculty Senate Research Library Council, Provost Cora Marrett, Deputy Provost John Cunningham, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Javier Cevallos, Transit Services, and Public Safety.
Asif Sayani ''01 introduced the idea of extending library hours at a Research Library Council meeting last spring. Kevin T. Anderson, a graduate student in anthropology, continued the discussion of adding hours in meetings this fall with the Research Library Council, Library staff members, and other students.
The Library supported adding the hours, and with the assistance of the above-named partners, the implementation became possible for this semester. Hours for the branch science libraries are unchanged, and are available on the Library''s Web site or by calling 545-0414.
