The Ombuds Office has hired Derek Doughty as a full-time assistant Ombuds. Doughty holds a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a master’s in anthropology from UMass Amherst and will complete his Ph.D. in 2018.
He recently completed the International Ombudsman Association training “Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice” in Baltimore, Maryland.
Prior to his current position, Doughty was employed by the dean of students office as a case manager and liaison to athletics. He has been active for many years on several campus-wide initiatives, including the Committee on Workplace Climate and Bullying and the Chancellor’s Diversity Advisory Committee.
He is trained and experienced in conflict resolution, has broad knowledge of the campus and is familiar with relevant policies and practices.
Doughty joins Carol Booth and Martha Patrick in offering conflict resolution services to students, staff and faculty who have university-related concerns.
