Distinguished Professor Steve Tracy, Afro-American studies, has been awarded the Distinguished Overseas Professorship by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
The award honors a foreign professor with internationally recognized academic achievement and influence in a particular field or discipline.
Distinguished Overseas Professor are selected from among many applicants through a strict procedure, including application of a qualified Chinese university, recommendations from three prestigious peer scholars from China and other countries, and peer review of the applicant’s academic performance.
A fund will be granted to cover the professor’s international travel, accommodation and pay for work in China. The professorship has a funding period of 2017-22.
In 2011, Tracy was awarded the Chu Tian Scholar Fellowship Award (“The Sky of Chu Kingdom Award”) by the Hubei Provincial Department of Education and officially named lecture professor of the Chu Tian Program.
During annual residencies at Central China Normal University, he has taught, advised graduate students, worked on co-editing a collection of essays by Chinese and American scholars, and offered numerous musical performances (vocals and harmonica).
