Center for Agriculture Adds ‘Food and the Environment’ to Name

April 9, 2014

The Center for Agriculture in the College of Natural Sciences is now the Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment.

“We’ve changed the center’s name so that it better represents what we actually do and represents the web of linked areas that we work in,” said Steve Goodwin, dean of the College of Natural Sciences. “We focus on subjects from farming to environmental stewardship, human health, climate change, food science, water resources, green industry and youth development. It’s a significant list and our new name and logo help tell the story.”

The center is the home of UMass Extension, the Water Resources Research Center, the Massachusetts Agricultural Experiment Station and the UMass research farms.

The Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment works in partnership across the campus with 16 departments across four schools and colleges. It sponsors research by faculty in these departments, funds Extension faculty in some of them and creates outreach educational programs, services and resources linked to the academic programs in many of them.
