AMHERST, Mass. - Henry L. Barr, an alumni leader at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was recognized recently for more than 50 years of leadership at the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston, Mass.
Barr, a 1968 UMass graduate, is a member on the Board of Directors of the UMass Amherst Foundation and the university''s Alumni Association. He is currently a senior partner in the Newton law firm, Barr and Cole, and serves as president of the real estate company, Duco Associates, Inc.
Barr has been involved with the Boys and Girls Club for 50 years as a camper, counselor, member and officer. He served as the 11th president from 2000-2003 and oversaw the securing of over $7 million in pledges for renovations for a new building and acquired funds from more corporations and foundations to develop the club''s facility into a 43,000-square-foot building that welcomes hundreds of children each day.
