Bhowmik Honored at International Weed Science Congress

Stockbridge School of Agriculture professor Prasanta Bhowmik was honored with a 2016 Outstanding International Achievement Award at the International Weed Science Society (IWSS) 7th International Weed Science Congress in June in Prague, Czech Republic.

IWSS President Nilda Roma Burgos cited Bhowmik’s leadership roles in the international arena of weed science. “You have a commendable record of teaching and research achievements. Your sustained active involvement in the regional, national and international weed science societies has helped promote the science of agriculture in general and weed science in particular. It is a privilege to have known you. We are infinitely grateful for your continued contributions and continued service,” she said.

Bhowmik offered a presentation on the invasive giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) during the congress.

The IWSS Board of Directors and the IWSS Award Selection Committee also honored three other scientists at the congress. They are from Switzerland, Denmark and Costa Rica.

The congress was attended by more than 800 participants from 57 countries.
