Ben-Ur awarded Duke University Jewish Studies Library Fellowship

Aviva Ben-Ur

Associate professor Aviva Ben-Ur of Judaic and Near Eastern studies has been awarded a Duke University Jewish Studies Library Fellowship.

Ben-Ur will undertake research in Duke’s David M. Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library to further her current book project, “Jewish Autonomy in a Slave Society.” She will compare the huge archival body of evidence relating to Jews and slavery in the Caribbean, her focus heretofore, with the much less known and more dispersed sources pertaining to Jewish masterhood and slavery in colonial America and the United States.
