The Fine Arts Center’s Asian Arts and Culture Program is sponsoring a special charter coach tour on Saturday, Nov. 9 to the Newark Museum of Art, which has one of the most distinctive collections of Tibetan art in the Western Hemisphere.
Newark Museum’s curator and art scholar, Katherine Anne Paul, will take participants through the ancient and diverse Tibetan art collection and share “behind the scenes” stories about the works. The centerpiece of the 11-gallery tour is a Tibetan Buddhist altar consecrated by the Dalai Lama.
Participants will have time to explore other exhibits and museum spaces. Reserve a seat by calling the Fine Arts Center Box Office at 1-800-999-UMAS or 545-2511. The cost of $100 includes bus, driver gratuity, museum admission, special curator tour and an artisanal box lunch for the road.
Pickup is at the Robsham Visitors Center at 7:45 a.m. with an estimated return at 9 p.m.
