Area Residents Invited to ‘National Night Out’ Activities Aug. 5 at UMass Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – Residents of Amherst, Hadley and surrounding communities are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out crime prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 5-9 p.m. in Lot 34 near the Robsham Visitors Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Co-sponsored locally by the UMass Police Department, National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention, generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships.

The UMass and Hadley police departments, Amherst Fire Department, UMass Amherst Environmental Health and Safety and other agencies will be represented at the event, which will include fun activities demonstrations, a live band and free food. Residents are encouraged to stop by and talk with officers and neighbors in a relaxed atmosphere as the community celebrates National Night Out.

Led by the National Association of Town Watch, the event will involve more than 16,124 communities across the country.
