Architecture + Design Program Cited for Innovative Curriculum

The architecture + design program has been selected as one of three 2013 National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Award recipients for developing innovative curricula that merge practice and education.

The winning proposal, submitted by professor Kathleen Lugosch and assistant professor Caryn Brause, was awarded $25,000. Titled “Voices from the Field: From Design Concept to Reality,” the proposed seminar features a series of construction site tours to expose students to the nuances of the construction process—knowledge typically attained after graduation. By examining active projects throughout the region, students will learn about the relationship between concept and technical design, develop an understanding of construction sequences and become familiar with the architect’s role in construction administration.
