The Group Insurance Commission is holding its annual Health Fair on Thursday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom as part of the health insurance open enrollment period that ends May 7.
Employees and retirees are encouraged to attend a health fair to consult with health insurance and other benefit plan representatives, pick up detailed plan materials and provider directories, speak with GIC staff about benefit options, change health plans or apply for other GIC benefits (including the special optional life insurance open enrollment that ends June 13) and take advantage of complimentary health screenings.
While the hours of the Health Fair may conflict with scheduled work hours for some employees, deans, directors and department heads are strongly encouraged to grant release time so that all employees can attend the event, according to Juan Jarrett, assistant vice chancellor for Human Resources. Supervisors should note that any time greater than two hours release time will be considered as personal or vacation time and should be reported accordingly.
During the period of the Health Fair all supervisors should try to coordinate release time so that work sites will remain open and functioning with appropriate staffing levels, Jarrett added.
