AMHERST, Mass. – Anna Symington has been named executive director of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association.
A graduate of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Symington went on to receive her bachelor’s and master''s degrees in plant and soil sciences at UMass Amherst.
Most recently, Symington has been deputy regional director for the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup, managing a staff that oversees hazardous waste cleanups in western Massachusetts. Over the past 23 years, she has held a variety of positions within the agency, including spokesperson and innovative technology coordinator.
Symington has been vice president of the Alumni Association’s board of directors and has served on numerous association committees, and is a life member of the group.
“I am pleased and excited for the opportunity to serve as a catalyst to raise public awareness both on and off campus for the Alumni Association, and to be an advocate for the University,” said Symington. “This is a unique opportunity to bring my management skills and my commitment and appreciation for the campus and its alumni together, in supporting UMass Amherst in its goal of becoming one of the nation’s most recognized public research universities.”
Symington will assume her new post at the end of December.
