AMHERST, Mass. - A bomb threat targeting the Mullins Center was received by University of Massachusetts police at about 5:30 a.m. Monday May 17. Due to the threat, and to ensure the safety and security of students, the Math 131 examination scheduled in Mullins at 8 a.m. was canceled.
AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts will expand its child care program in the fall, with a new modular building plus flexible-scheduling care for toddlers. The announcement was made by Maryanne Gallagher, director of University Child Care (UCC).
AMHERST, Mass. - Linda Nolan, director of the honors program at the University of Massachusetts since 1992, has been named interim dean of Commonwealth College, the new honors college located on the UMass Amherst campus. Nolan is a member of the faculty in environmental health sciences in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.
AMHERST, Mass. - Six undergraduates studying chemistry at the University of Massachusetts will conduct laboratory research in synthetic chemistry for 10 weeks this summer through a program funded with a $30,000 grant from the Pfizer Central Research Division, Groton, Conn. Chemistry professor Paul Lahti, UMass coordinator for the program, made the announcement.

AMHERST, Mass. - Noted public law scholar and University of Massachusetts alumnus Bruce Allen Murphy will give a public lecture, "The Search for William O. Douglas," on Friday, May 14 at 3 p.m. in Room 917 of the campus center. The event is being held in honor of the retirement of Dean Alfange Jr., professor of political science, who was Murphy’s undergraduate mentor.
AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts School of Education "Cultural Identity Group Project" is sponsoring a visit to the Fort River Elementary School by UMass men’s basketball coach James "Bruiser" Flint, Thurs., May 13. The project meeting will take place from 2-3:45 p.m. with the visit by Flint scheduled from 2- 2:45 p.m.
AMHERST, Mass. - Robert DeConto has joined the department of geosciences at the University of Massachusetts. The announcement was made by Raymond Bradley, head of the department. "Understanding ocean circulation and its relationship to global climate changes is a critical area of research, and Rob DeConto is an expert in this area," said Bradley.
