AMHERST, Mass. – The parking services office at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has installed new parking pay stations in two of its visitor parking lots, one near Boyden Gymnasium on Commonwealth Avenue and the other at the Robsham Visitors Center off Massachusetts Avenue.
The mood was upbeat Sept. 1 as civic, business and academic leaders marked the beginning of a new academic year at the annual Community Breakfast co-hosted by the campus and the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce.
An analysis by geoscientist Michele Cooke of the computer models that characterize the tectonics of the Los Angeles Basin suggests that five faults in the basin pose more of a seismic hazard than previously estimated.
