Work by UMass Amherst physicists Andrea Pocar, Laura Cadonati and doctoral student Keith Otis, with other researchers on the Borexino experiment who reported this year that they accomplished the first detection of neutrinos from the main nuclear reaction powering the sun, has been named one of the “Top Ten Breakthroughs of 2014” by editors and reporters at Physics World magazine.
Three doctoral students at UMass Amherst have received Eugene M. Isenberg Scholar Awards. The students, Yueran Zhuo and David Agogo from the Isenberg School of Management’s operations and information management department, and Cole Fitzpatrick from the College of Engineering’s civil and environmental engineering department, each received $10,000.
