AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees today voted to approve the establishment of an endowed professorship in the department of food science. The professorship will be known as the F. J. Francis Endowed Chair, in honor of Frederick "Jack" Francis, long-time food science professor and department head who is establishing the endowment with a gift of $1.5 million to the University.

AMHERST, Mass. - Abhijit V. Deshmukh, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering at the University of Massachusetts, has been selected as a Milton C. Shaw Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer of 1999 by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). The award is presented to individuals, age 35 or younger, who demonstrate outstanding leadership in and specific contributions to the field of manufacturing engineering.
AMHERST, Mass. - Violators of the alcohol policy at the University of Massachusetts who received sanctions during the fall ’98 semester totaled 334. During the same period a year ago, the number was 705. The figures were released this week by Jo-Anne Vanin, associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students.
