The ground-breaking for the Joseph Troll Turf Research Center was held Jan. 6 in South Deerfield. Professor emeritus Joseph Troll, Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences, ceremoniously pitched the first shovel into the ground to begin construction on the $775,000-facility.
AMHERST, Mass. – Nearly 200 students from western Massachusetts will gather in Bartlett Hall at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Thursday, Jan. 13, to participate in a writing workshop day sponsored by the Western Massachusetts Writing Project (WMWP).
Two Amherst campus graduates and an honorary degree recipient are among seven women who will be recognized for excellence in business and management by the Women’s Network of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 27.
Faculty in the School of Education’s School Psychology Program are working with school administrators and teachers across the state to improve reading scores. The program is part of the federal Reading First grant designed to help underperforming schools boost the reading scores of children in kindergarten through third grade. Work is underway to train staff for the Reading First program in schools from Boston to New Bedford and in districts in Western Massachusetts.
Searches for a dean of the Graduate School and an associate provost and director of International Programs were announced this week by Provost Charlena Seymour. Searches are already underway for the deans of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the School of Education, as well as director of Libraries.
