Some 200 female students, teachers and guidance counselors from high schools representing more than 130 towns and cities throughout Massachusetts will converge on campus Monday, Oct. 24 for Women in Engineering Career Day.
Microsoft Corp. has designated UMass Amherst as the first Microsoft IT Showcase School in the nation, recognizing the campus’s innovative leadership in applying information technology to teaching and learning. Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer made the announcement at the Oct. 21 opening of the Learning Commons in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library.
Thomas Russell, Distinguished Professor of Polymer Science and Engineering, was recently elected to the board of directors of the Materials Research Society, an international organization with more than 13,000 members. His three-year term begins Jan. 1.
