AMHERST, Mass. – A clinic for children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) recently opened at the Psychological Services Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

While it is estimated that between 5 and 12 percent of school-aged children and adults have ADHD, it can be a difficult condition to diagnose with accuracy, according to Becky Ready, a licensed clinical neuropsychologist and director of the clinic. Problems with attention, concentration and memory occur in many medical and psychiatric disorders, she says, and a thorough evaluation is necessary to determine when those symptoms are due to ADHD or another condition.

The new clinic offers efficient, low-cost comprehensive assessments of ADHD. Behavioral interventions, psychotherapy and parenting support groups for ADHD are available at the Psychological Services Center.

“We are excited about our new streamlined ADHD clinic,” says Ready. “We have been conducting ADHD evaluations for years but our new clinic is an improvement over past services. We will be able to schedules persons more quickly and have prompt turnaround on reports and feedback. We will fill a need in the community for children and adults who require evaluations to obtain proper treatment and accommodations.”
