RSS and Podcasts
RSS, also known as Really Simple Syndication, provides readers the convenience of having the latest news directly delivered to them without the need to constantly visit Web sites. RSS feeds include headlines and links to full articles and Web pages.
To receive RSS feeds, you can use Web and browser-based readers such as Google Reader, Internet Explorer 7.0, Firefox 2.0 and Safari 2.0. You can also choose desktop software applications known as aggregators or news readers. Good resources on this topic include a Yahoo directory of news readers and RSS Specifications .
A podcast is a series of audio or video files distributed online using syndication feeds, which can be played back on a computer or a portable media player such as an iPod. To receive a podcast, you can use a podcast-enabled site such as iTunes. The "Subscribe to iTunes" link on the left side of this page allows you to easily sign up for News Office multimedia offerings, and iTunes will notify you when new material is available.
