UMASS AMHERST FACTS

•  The Flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system.

•  A 1,450-acre campus nestled in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts; one of the most picturesque areas of Massachusetts.

•  Located in a lovely New England town 175 miles northeast of New York City and 90 miles west of Boston . The New York Times called Amherst one of the nation's "Ten Best College Towns." The campus provides a rich cultural environment in a rural setting close to major urban centers.

•  Includes 25,600 students and 1,169 faculty in 10 schools and colleges offering 93 undergraduate majors, 73 masters programs and 51 doctoral programs.

•  Participates in the Five College system; courses can be taken, at no extra cost, at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, which are linked by a free bus system. The Five Colleges offer a wealth of academic, cultural and extracurricular activities, accessible to all who study in the area.
