Greg Spiridopoulos is principal trombone of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra, and a member of the Portland Symphony and Boston Philharmonic orchestras.
|Mr. Spiridopoulos has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Bernard Haitink, Mstislav Rostropovich and Robert Spano. He has performed with the Boston Pops under the direction of Keith Lockhart, John Williams and Erich Kunzel.
An enthusiast of historical performance, Mr. Spiridopoulos has custom-built his own Classical Period replica alto and tenor trombones, which he uses in performances with the Handel and Haydn Society. He can be heard on the Handel and Haydn Society’s recording of Mozart’s Requiem, under the direction of Harry Christophers. He has also worked under the direction Christopher Hogwood, Grant Llewellyn and John Nelson in the Handel and Haydn Society.
As an active free-lance musician, Mr. Spiridopoulos has performed with the Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Cantata Singers of Boston, Emmanuel Music, the West Virginia Symphony, Key West Symphony, New Hampshire Music Festival, the Empire Brass Quintet, Burning River Brass and many others.
Since 2010, Mr. Spiridopoulos has been Lecturer of Trombone at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has performed recitals and presented master classes at numerous schools including Boston University, University of New Hampshire, University of North Texas, Baylor University, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University and Oklahoma City University. In June 2012, he appeared as a guest soloist at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. Spiridopoulos has also been a featured faculty soloist with the University of Massachusetts Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands.
A native of Vienna, Virginia, Mr. Spiridopoulos received his Master of Music degree from Boston University, where he studied with Ronald Barron. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Michigan State University, studying with Curtis Olson and Philip Sinder; and was a proud member of the Spartan Marching Band.
