MUSIC EDUCATION; LECTURER


Beverly Hill
is the Program Manager for Outreach Arts Extension Service and a Lecturer in Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Beverly Hill
She received her B.S. degree in Music Education from Grambling State University, M.A. in Special Education (Educable Mentally Retarded) from the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley, and Post-graduate studies at the University of Denver in Public School Administration. She was a public school teacher and administrator at the Junior High/Middle School levels in Denver, Colorado for 26 years and served on various educational Tasks Forces which afforded her the opportunity to travel and interact with people from throughout the world.

Her professional activities include the following: liaison and coordinator for the Berkshire Hills Music Academy in Hadley, MA; co-lead a group of professionals to Moscow & St. Petersburg, Russia for People to People Citizen Ambassador Programs; co-founder of the Community Arts, Health and Healing Project at UMass; Co-author of the "Middle School Integrated Arts Curriculum Guide" and "Denver as an Art Form;" received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.; community relations collaborator for the Somali Women's Project, Backpacks of Love Burundian Resettlement Project; chair of the Distinguished Academic Outreach Awards Committee, member of Outreach Strategic Business Plan Committee; and, served as President of Phi Delta Kappa Professional Fraternity in Education.

A few of her civic service activities include: a member of the Board of Directors for the Multicultural Arts Council of Western Massachusetts and ArtShow Amherst (A Fine Arts Street Gallery); a member of the Fine Arts Center Annual Gala & Auction Planning Committee, UMACC (UMass Amherst Community Campaign) Executive Committee, Research Library Council, Massachusetts Arts Alliance, the Greater Springfield Chapter of Links, Inc.; and, has served on numerous Search Committees at UMass-Amherst. She and her husband, Willie L. Hill, Jr. Ph.D. (Director of the Fine Art Center, UMass.), have lived in Amherst, Massachusetts since 1999. They have one son, Byron Hill who is a music producer in Los Angeles, California.
