Chenette's research explores ways of reconciling historical sources and repertoires with modern analytical methodologies and goals. His research on the expressive uses of complex rhythm in late 14th century secular music was presented to the 2010 annual meeting of the Society for Music Theory. A more recent presentation investigating the relationship between strict counterpoint and chromaticism in late 16th century music was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Arthur J.
