Our
Mission
The mission of the Department of Music & Dance is to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth through academic excellence in the preparation of music performers, music scholars, and music teachers for service to the Commonwealth, the Northeast region and the nation.
The Department achieves this mission through the highest quality solo and ensemble performances, teaching, creative activities, and research activities. Equally, the mission of the Department is to foster musical excellence in creative activity, research, teaching, and service through faculty and student involvement in public performance, research publication, and other creative activities.
These activities, in particular the ensemble performances, are important aspects of the public's perception of university quality. The Department's curricula and activities are in keeping with leading Research-I public universities including the six universities identified as comparatives in the 2005-06 Research and Instructional Benchmarking process.
