Includes approximately 50 undergraduate students.
The Dance Major Program at the University seeks to prepare students in both the technical and theoretical aspects of dance. The Dance Program
offers BFA and BA degree tracks, and places equal emphasis on the idioms
of ballet, modern dance, and jazz.
Dance studios and administrative offices are in the Ruth Totman Physical Education Building. The Fine Arts Center houses extensive performing, academic and administrative
space, including the 2,000-seat Concert Hall, and the 700-seat Bowker Auditorium, located in Stockbridge Hall.
Utilizes UMass Amherst's library system which includes music and dance-related books (20,000), scores (18,000), periodical subscriptions (100), recordings (21,000), and a variety of electronic resources, located in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library and a smaller Music Reserve Lab in the Music wing of the Fine Arts Center.
Participates in the Five College system; courses can be taken, at no extra cost, at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, which are linked by a free bus system.

Dance Program are also members of the Five College Dance Department, which combines the dance faculties and programs
of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges with those of the University.
