Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends of Dance,

This year the Dance Program has had cause for MANY celebrations!

With your help, we will continue to provide the artistic activities which enrich our students and the University community.

** On December 3, 2009, Chuck Davis received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (click for short video or UMass article) in recognition of his many accomplishments in the world of dance and his generous service to the University. "Dr." Davis completed a three-year residency for the Sankofa Dance Project: Celebrating Black Traditions in American Dance, which reached hundreds of UMass, 5-College Dance Department and Springfield regional students.

**The Dance Program and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts received a major gift from Nils and Kara Rillings Morgan of historic photos from the Barbara Morgan Archives which will inspire and educate current students and generations of dancers yet to come. Many of the photos will be on exhibit from Nov. 2 through Dec. 10, 2010 in the Herter Art Gallery, with an even more comprehensive exhibit planned for next year.

**Students and alumni met with Boston Ballet Artistic and Executive Directors, Mikko Nissenen and Barry Hughson, and UMass President Jack Wilson at an "Uncommon Leadership" luncheon in Boston.

Donate!

It takes almost no time at all to make a gift. You can give by credit card or check; you can give the full amount or pay in installments. Right now you can make an online donation: fill out the form. For Allocation 1, select College of Humanities & Fine Arts, then "Friends of Dance" or select "Other" and type in the fund of your choice. See our Giving Options page for more information.

**The BoSoma Dance Company, an alumnae company based in Boston, performed, taught a master class and offered a workshop in the Five Colleges.

**The UMass Amherst Dance Program hosted a weekend of events for the Massachusetts Dance Festival in August. Many former UMass dancers have been involved with the planning of this on-going Festival!

**Working closely with alumna Rochelle Rice, the New York Professional Outreach Program (NYPOP/Dance) has had exciting visits to New York City to explore the multi-faceted world of dance in order to help dance majors prepare for "life after UMass."

We ask that you contribute generously to our Friends of Dance fund which helps to support these and other glorious activities. To make a gift online go to https://www.umass.edu/development/give/, and fill out the form. Under gift allocation #1, click on College of Humanities & Fine Arts and then within CHFA, scroll to the bottom and click on Friends of Dance.  Or you may send a check, made out to UMass Amherst with Friends of Dance in the memo line to: UMass Amherst, Development Office, Memorial Hall, 134 Hicks Way, Amherst, MA 01003.

Parents, alumni: Select your graduation year, or your son's or daughter's year and let that be the amount of your donation! For parents with a recent graduate, $20.10 will be helpful! If each parent and alum who reads this donates the amount of their graduation year or their child's year, and does this annually, who knows - will a new studio be far behind!?

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

On behalf of the Dance faculty and with joy in dance!
