CAREER NETWORK - A service for alumni

Message from Heather McLean:

I am a U. Mass. alumni. I own the Creative Edge Dance Studio, an established studio for over 10 years in Bethlehem NH located in the heart of the White Mountains.  I graduated with my BFA in 1989 in dance.

I am looking for someone to take over my position and have the option of becoming partner if they are a good fit. I need someone who can teach strong classes in Ballet, Pointe, and Jazz. If they can also teach Hip hop, even better. If not, Jazz and Ballet will be enough. I am beginning my search now and would be open to the right person coming in any time. However, I absolutely need someone by September 2008. Anyone who is interested can call or email me.

TO ALL FRIENDS AND STUDENTS OF WALTER CHESNUT

The UMass Amherst Department of Music & Dance is sad to announce the passing, on May 4, 2007, of our beloved Professor Emeritus Walter Chesnut. Many, many people's lives have been touched by Walter's skilled teaching, trumpet playing, community activities, and by his caring and generous spirit. He was a familiar figure to all in the University, playing his herald trumpet at countless commencements and other ceremonies.

Walter was at different times in his career not only our Professor of Trumpet, but was also the conductor of the Brass Choir and the Wind Ensemble, and a friend and mentor to countless students.  He was an active clinician as a trumpet player and conductor and became a genuine "pied piper" for the Department and the University, attracting students from wherever he went.  His passion for music and for teaching will long be remembered; he will be greatly missed by all of us.

There was a Memorial Service and Tribute Concert on Saturday, October 6, 2007. The Memorial Service, at 11 AM, and reception following, was at Grace Church next to the Amherst Town Common. The free Tribute Concert was on campus, in Bowker Auditorium near the Parking Garage, at 2 pm, and included an alumni brass choir, and performances and tributes by family, faculty and alumni from Professor Chesnut's 39 years at UMass Amherst.

Gifts in Walter's memory may be made to his Scholarship Fund. Checks may be made out to the Department of Music & Dance, with the notation, "Chesnut Scholarship," and sent to Records and Gifts Processing, Memorial Hall, 134 Hicks Way, UMass Amherst, Amherst, MA 01003.
