Goal Met For Instrument Matching Campaign
Thank you very much to the many donors who contributed to the New Instrument
Fund! We met our goal early in the year. Although we anticipated a campaign
that would end in May, by February we had exceeded our goal of $12,500, which
enabled us to trigger the 2:1 match generously provided by Joel Martin, Dean of
the College of Humanities & Fine Arts. The money raised so far will address a
portion of the instrument needs. Please keep the New Instrument Fund in mind
when you make gifts to the Department. We are grateful to Dean Martin for his
support.

Music Education Alumni Mentoring Network
The Department's Music Education Program continues to support alumni regardless of when they graduated. The "Music Education Alumni Mentoring Network" provides a way for alumni to maintain a professional connection with UMass and each other in support of their success as music teachers. General information about teaching, job notices, best teaching practices, and professional support are shared and provided via email exchanges and personal conferences. Started and directed by Professor Ben Smar, the Network is only in its infancy. New initiatives are in the works to provide opportunities for alumni and current undergraduates to connect (Reality Check), as well as to improve interaction through online resources (UMass Music Education Forum).
Alumni interested in linking with the Network can send an email to Ben
Smar at bsmar@acad.umass.edu.
