Volpe Transportation: An Amazing InfoWorkshop

Posted: 3/20/2013

I am very glad that I attended the Volpe info session. I was able to learn more about the company and their internship opportunities. They were also very encouraging for students of all GPA ranges to apply.

This surprised me for many companies will not accept applications below a 3.0. I learned valuable information to help me apply to their company and others. Thank you CMASS and Volpe for holding this event.

"Moving Off Campus"

Notes from March 12, 2012

Moving off campus is more than a financial decision. It is a life changing experience that signifies increased independence and maturity. The Off Campus Housing Office assists students searching for housing options and with training on becoming a smart renter. Here are some surprising facts:

• Once the lease is signed you should receive 2 receipts from your landlord; a receipt of your first month’s rent and of your deposit. The deposit receipt should list a bank and account number.

• In the town of Amherst Mass only no more than four people can appear on a lease. If you are the fifth wheel you may lose out on tenant rights.

• Landlord’s cannot ask for application fee!!

• Counting on excess money from financial aid may not be a wise decision since you will not get your excess check until after school starts.
If you are considering moving out of the residence halls Off Campus Housing should be the first place you visit.

Harvard BioMedical

March 2012

Harvard BioMedical Careers Conference

The Harvard Biomedical Careers conference was a great opportunity to learn more about the process of setting up a career in the field of science. I enjoyed my time spent at the Harvard BSCP as I attended the interactive panel discussions and met with my advisers.

I particularly like the fact that my advisers were well experienced and so they were able to provide concrete information on how to be successful in the career path I chose to take.

I would recommend any student who is interested in the medical sciences to take part in this rewarding opportunity and so I believe CMass should continue doing this for its students.

Harvard BioMedical Careers Conference

Thank you so much CMASS for providing the transportation and allowing me the opportunity to attend the Harvard Biomedical Careers Conference! It was a really great experience and I'm so glad I found out about BSCP through CMASS.

The BSCP Conference left me with a newfound sense of pride and encouragement. The clear and resounding words of Joan Reede "You can do anything you want to do in this world- it doesn't matter what anyone else says. Believe in yourself," provided more than just temporary feelings of hope and strength.

Dr. Reede was the living example, the model of a woman from an underrepresented minority who worked arduously to achieve success. She made her dreams a reality and proved that each individual in this world has the capability to pursue any career he or she desires. All you have to do is overcome that first fearful step and throw away any doubts. I felt so fortunate to take part in this outstanding opportunity and gather with such intellectual, warm, and supportive professionals who are sincerely eager to offer any advice and aid.

I gained much valuable knowledge and a set of resources that I am so appreciative of. The BSCP Conference is an event that I will never forget. Prior to attending the BSCP Conference,

I had a lot of doubts about myself and whether I could really become a doctor or pursue a scientific/medical/professional career. I was overwhelmed by all of the success stories presented at the conference- these individuals who, just like me, were BSCP students.

I would have liked to network with more people at the conference but because of the large number of participants, I felt that it was difficult to make that personal contact.

Overall, the amount of resources that the Biomedical Science Careers Program provided for each student was phenomenal- we were literally so close to the top medical schools, research facilities, and organizations of the world.

Sincerely,
Lana Kim
